Bringing you peace of mind

Do you worry about the well being of a loved one?

Are they living alone or in a nursing home?

Are they comfortable, eating properly, thinking clearly, and enjoying life?

Would you like someone who cares about the wellbeing of other seniors and people with disabilities to visit them on a regular basis and update you on how they’re doing?

Grandma Comes Calling is a group of caring and retired grandmothers and aunties who are devoted to looking out for our fellow seniors and elders in the Marion and Polk County areas in Oregon by checking in on them, spending time talking and getting to know them and providing a Care Report to their families on how they are doing.

We know life moves quickly, families are busy and commitments to see your loved ones as often as you’d like are hard to keep. That’s where Grandma Comes Calling comes in. We have the time and would love to provide a loving presence to your loved one, peace of mind for you and you provide us an invaluable sense of purpose.

Salem First Christian Church

"I know Pat Gest to be one of the most caring and dedicated persons that I have met. When she shared with me her concept of checking in on those in care facilities or homebound, I realized that she would be perfect for the job. Her years of delivering pharmaceuticals to people around Salem gives her knowledge of the city and the care that is needed, giving her a great ability to carry out this important task."

"What impresses me about Pat is her dedication and commitment to our customers: she was very caring and concerned about each person she called on. Many times when customers were slow to answer their doors, Pat would phone them to see if they were alright. If they didn't respond to her call, she'd see if a neighbor was aware of any problem or knew if the person had gone out. More than once, Pat would obtain help for someone in need."

Meet Patricia Gest
I started Grandma Comes Calling because I see a need...a need for busy families to be able to lean on somone to help check in on a loved one more often than they are able, and a need for those who cannot soley care for themselves not to be forgotten. This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

I was born an only child, have 5 children of my own, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, plus many more loved ones I consider family. My professional career spanned more than 40 years serving first as a classified school employee for Hood River County Schools, then as the first woman state president of Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA), I retired from OSEA as the director of field operations serving classified school employees, representing those who during that time
had little voice of their own. After retiring, I served as president of the South Salem Seniors where I led the million dollar development of a Senior Center with no public funding, that provides local services, activities and resources to our senior community. As many my age do, I needed an additional source of income and spent the last 5 years with Rite Aid delivering prescription medication to elderly who could not pick it up themselves.

I am fortunate to have most of my family near by, but they are busy, as I know most families are - I have time on my hands and would like to do something for those who could use my help. I have long volunteered with my home congregation, the First Christian Church, but I am looking at this as an additional source of income and a way to give back and offer care and companionship to a very vulnerable group in our society right now, seniors. I love sharing stories, listening to stories, but moreso, I understand the position they are in, and I would be honored to do what I can to help you and your loved ones.
